Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
An important official commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
